Womens suffrage
Women suffrage is the right of women to right to vote and run for public office without sexual activity based restrictions such as marital status, ownership of property and tax defrayal (Sh ber 64). The women suffrage movement strives to ensure that women are enfranchised i.e. they are given all the rights of citizenship.
Women begun voting from as early as the 1700s, but their participation in elections was highly restricted by heavy pre-qualifications imposed on them. For instance, in 1776, women in reinvigorated Jersey could only vote if they owned property. Since married women could not own property, only widows and unmarried women could vote. Suffrage movements were vehemently distant to such restrictions, which left a huge section of women disenfranchised. In the United States, the suffrage movement gained considerable momentum in 1848 after the 15th Amendment gave voting rights to black men. Influential women including Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott refused to evidence this amendment arguing that women should be granted the same rights (Crawford 45).

This marked the assault of organized women suffrage organizations, such as American cleaning woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA), whose activism culminated in full women enfranchisement in 1920 through the 19th Amendment (Sharer 76).
